One exercise the students learn in my course is to lungeing a horse. It
means that the students have to handle and instruct the horse from the ground
and when they do this they have a lungeing rein between themselves and the
horse. The horse circles around the leader (student) in different pace and the
leader has a lungeing whip as an extra forward aid from the ground. Why the
students have to learn this, is because it is a good complement to riding the
horse and sometimes it is good for the horse to work without a rider on its
back. The students will train their “horse eye” and learn how the horse looks
like when it works correct with the whole body.
