Hi what kind of dogs are most common in Australia?
ReplyDeleteAre there many breeds from Australia?
HI Lena, The most common dog I think is the Labrador but people have many different breeds- large and small
DeleteHi Jackie
DeleteOur groom has an australian kelpi and he is going to work with the horses...we hope that! One of the teacher at Dille has an australian shephard and that dog is very nice but I do not think that he will be "a working dog" but a lovely family dog!!!!
Hi!
ReplyDeleteDo you run this as a commercial service where the clients pay for the services. Are the students trained in running a buisness? Or is the aim mainly to produce good employes?
Hi Gudni, Yes we have just started to make this a commercial service but only to our staff. It is at a very reduced price , mostly to cover running costs of equipment- shampoos, grooming equipment etc.
DeleteThe main reason is to provide the students with dog handling experience and client interaction. Good employees that are confident and competent handling animals

Hi Jackie
ReplyDeleteI think that your Dog Day care concept is a good one. Can you tell us more about how you have set it up and the benefits that it has for the students?
Susanne
Hi Susanne, We have set up a semi-commercial dog day care that runs two days a week. Each day consists of 4 students and 1 supervisor looking after 15- 18 dogs. Tasks that the students do is: obedience training, physical health examinations, provide grooming services, socialise the dogs, discuss health issues with the owner and educate the owners in good dog management. The students learn by experience. They gain confidence in handling many types of dogs- fearful dogs, dominant dogs, large, small, old , young, etc. As they perform more than 40 health checks they become very good at identifying health issues in the dogs that the owners often miss. They are also required to communicate this to the owner in a very diplomatic manner. They also just enjoy the experience of spending the whole day outside playing with dogs. What they don't enjoy so much is the hygiene part- cleaning up after the dogs The students are required to complete 6 full days in the Dog day care centre.
