My name is Gudni Agustsson. I work as a teacher in horsekeeping at a school called Dille Gard. This is a small scool with about 70 pupils. At the school we keep about 40 icelandic horses.
This is a picture showing our stable and some of the machines!

  1. Hello Gudni

What is the difference between an Icelandic horse and other horses. I haven't heard of an icelandic horse before.

    1. Hello Susanne!
The icelandic horse comes from Iceland. The special thing about them is mainly the gates. The icelandic horse has two additional gates, tölt and pace. The tölt is a four beated lateral gate where one or two legs are always on the ground. The pace is a two beat lateral gate and is ridden in high speed for short distances.

    1. In winter most of the horses are ridden continuously. Many of them stay outside and can enter a shelter if the weather is bad. they have a thick wintercoat so they do not freeze easily. The horses we have are icelandic horses and they are a multipurpuse horse. They are used for pleasure riding, showriding and in touristbuisness. The horses at our school are schools horses and are used in the riding education. In iceland they still have a role in the farming as they are used when the farmers collect the sheep from the moountains in the autumn.

  3. Hi Gudni how do you use the machines in the education? Do the student just practice or do the use the machines in taking care of the horses?

    1. The students learn to use the machines in taking care of the horses. Like bringing new round bales for the horses and so on. The aim is that they can manage that without any help from a teacher.
